VMware Hardware Monitoring

Monitor your ESX/ESXi hardware sensors like cables, systemboards, and Bios and get detailed analysis including the status and count of all the hardware sensors.

Adding a VMware Hardware Monitor

A VMware hardware monitor can be discovered automatically while adding a VMware ESX/ESXi monitor.

Polling: You can choose how would you prefer your monitors to be polled—via VMware vCenter or the individual VMware ESX/ESXi host credential. Learn more about VMware polling.

Existing Setup:

Hardware-related metrics for ESXi hosts are currently displayed under the Hardware tab (VMware > VMware Resources > ESX/ESXi Host > click on a monitor) in Site24x7.

Migrating to a New Monitor Type:

By October 31, 2021, we will be migrating these metrics to a new monitor type under VMware > VMware Resources > ESX Hardware. All thresholds configured for hardware-related metrics in the VMware ESXi monitor will be deprecated by October 31, 2021.

For existing VMware ESXi monitors, the current hardware metrics will be automatically moved as a new VMware ESXi hardware monitor under VMware > VMware Resources > ESX Hardware. For new VMware ESXi monitors, once the ESXi host is added, a new VMware ESXi hardware monitor will be added under VMware > VMware Resources > ESX Hardware.

Add a Hardware Monitor:

For an existing VMware ESX/ESXi monitor:

  1. In the Site24x7 web client, go to VMware > VMware Resources > ESX/ESXi Host. Click on the ESX/ESXi monitor for which you want to monitor the hardware sensors.
  2. Hover on the hamburger icon beside the monitor display name and click Edit.
  3. In the Edit VMware ESX/ESXi Monitor page, toggle Yes for the option Hardware under Discover and Auto-add Resources. By default, this option is set to Yes and 50 sensors will be added per hardware monitor. Alternatively, you can choose the sensors that require monitoring. Learn more
  4. Save your changes.

You can also discover hardware sensors for multiple ESX/ESXi hosts in one go using the VMware Discovery Options under Admin > Inventory > Bulk Action.

50 hardware sensors will be considered one basic monitor.
