Cassandra Monitoring

Monitor Apache Cassandra and identify slowdowns, resource limitations, and resolve them instantly. Use our read-to-install plugin integration and get visibility on the datastore's health, performance, and resource usage.

Prerequisites

  • Install the latest version of the Linux server monitoring agent.
  • Ensure to name the plugin folder and file name as identical.

Plugin Installation

  1. Download the Cassandra plugin script (cassandra.sh) from our GitHub repository.
  2. Set the JAVA_HOME and PLUGIN_FOLDER variables. Also, configure the Cassandra server host and JMX port.
  3. In the metrics.txt file, mention the specific MBean to monitor exactly those metrics.
    org.apache.cassandra.metrics:type=*,scope=*,name=* <Value|Mean Rate|OneMinuteRate|Count> <type>-<scope>-<name>
For example, to get Cache related metrics, define it in the following way:
    org.apache.cassandra.metrics:type=Cache,scope=*,name=* <Value> <type>-<scope>-<name>

The following metrics will be obtained:
    Cache-RowCache-Hits
    Cache-CounterCache-Requests
    Cache-RowCache-Requests
    Cache-KeyCache-Requests
    Cache-CounterCache-Hits
    Cache-KeyCache-Hits
  4. Download and install the latest version of the Linux agent.
  5. Create a folder cassandra in the Site24x7 Linux installation directory - /opt/site24x7/monagent/plugins/<cassandra>.
  6. Copy-paste the cassandra.sh file into the cassandra folder inside the Linux directory.

The agent will automatically execute the plugin within five minutes and send the performance data to the Site24x7 data center. You can view the metrics under Server > Plugin Integrations > click on the name of the monitor.

Set Thresholds

Once a plugin monitor is added, associate a threshold and availability profile to help the alarms engine decide if a specific resource has to be declared critical or down. Configure Downtime Rules to reduce false alerts.

Licensing

The first plugin added for a server monitor is free. After that, each plugin monitor is considered as a basic monitor. Each plugin can have upto 25 attributes. For this plugin, the first 25 metrics will be added for monitoring; the remaining metrics will be ignored. Ensure the desired MBean is correctly specified while installing the plugin.
